May 2010 Free Parenting Course will be running in Long Stratton Village hall for parents of children aged 3 – 9.  limited places available.  10 weeks – unfortunately no creche facilities.

All families with children attending schools in the cluster are able to contact the Parent Suppport Adviser if things are not going quite right at home.   Parents and schools contacted me with a range of issues to explore, including managing relationships, boundary setting, attendance, healthy eating, SEN, transition to High School, housing issues, behaviour, bedtime routines, managing debt and sibling rivalry.  As a PSA, I have the time to listen and understand issues and their underlying causes.  Together with families and schools, I am able to help the family turn the situation around so that children can make the most of their education.  I use a practical, problem solving approach which puts the family at the centre

A recent evaluation highlighted how parents have found the service;

I am happy to accept school or self-referrals and can be contacted via the details above, term time only.   The service is free and confidential.

Would you like access to books about parenting and family life? I’m compiling a mobile library of books  and resources for parents to borrow – just turn up to school when I come in (coffee mornings, parents events, parent teacher consultation evenings etc) or ring to find out if I have any resources on the particular topic you are interested in.  Loans are free for 2 weeks.

Interested in finding out more about a particular topic which affects family life?  If enough parents are also interested, I’d be happy to run an information / discussion workshop – just ring to let me know.   Lots of parents contact me with the same questions and issues – sometimes it’s good to get other parents’ perspectives and to know you are not alone.

Worried about going to a meeting at school?  I can come with you to sort things out if you feel you could do with a bit of extra support.  Your child’s education is a collaborative effort, between you, the child and the school.  When things aren’t going so well, take action to find out how to sort things out so everyone gets back on track  as quickly as possible.
